Imodium (Loperamide)

Imodium (Loperamide) is specially formulated to treat some types of diarrhea as well as lowering the amount of discharge from the surgical formation of a permanent opening through the abdominal wall into the ileum. Imodium may be also applied for regulating some other medical conditions in accordance with your doctor's prescription.

Imodium is to be taken in strict accordance to your doctor's prescription. The following rules must be observed while undergoing Imodium therapy:
- Imodium is an oral medication taken with or without meal;
- Do not forget to renovate your hydrologic balance while suffering from diarrhea. Ask your doctor or any other health care provider in case you have any questions concerning Imodium and enhancing its efficiency

Imodium is on oral medication used as an agent slowing down and decreasing the evacuation of faeces.

If you miss a dose of Imodium, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. If you have missed more than one dose of Imodium, consult our doctor or any other health care provider.

Imodium must be stored at indoor temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Minor brief temperature excursions froom 59 to 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C respectively) are allowed. Keep away from the sources of heat, moisture, and light in a cool dry place. Store Imodium out of the reach of children and domestic animals.

Imodium is banned for the use of the following groups of patients:
- Persons who have ever displayed any signs of allergy towards any of its components;
- Patients who are developing crapping without frequent and copious discharge of abnormally liquid faeces (diarrhea);
- Patients who are suffering from flatulence, infrequent or difficult evacuation of the bowels, with hard faeces, caused by functional or organic disorders or improper diet (constipations) or blood in stools;
- Children younger than 24 months.
Notify your doctor or any other health care provider if you fall into any of the above mentioned groups.

Attention:
- Patients who undergo Imodium treatment may be susceptible to such side effects as fatigue, tiredness, giddiness or drowsiness, therefore it is not recommended to perform potentially dangerous tasks (driving, machinery management, etc) while taking Imodium before you know what are your typical reactions to this medication;
- Do not exceed your prescribed dose within 2 days unless prescribed by your doctor or any other health care specialist;
- Seek emergency attention of your doctor or any other health care specialist in case you have shown no progress in your medical state after 48 hours of Imodium therapy;
- If you experience such major side effects as abdominal distension, severe abdominal pain or bloody stools, seek emergency medical help right away;
- Imodium is only applied for treating the symptoms of diarrhea, not its causes. For better results consult your doctor for finding the reasons for your present condition and eliminating it;
- Use Imodium with caution in pregnant and nursing women. It is known that Imodium is absorbed by the breast milk, therefore do not take Imodium while still on your lactation period. If you become pregnant while on Imodium therapy, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of discontinuing taking Imodium.

Patients who undergo Imodium therapy may develop the following adverse side effects:
- Signs of dermatological allergy: rashes, hives, itching, oozing; other allergic symptoms including swelling of the mucous tissues of the mouth cavity, impaired breathing and angina (severe pain in the chest); infrequent or difficult evacuation of the bowels, with hard faeces; decrease in urination; abdominal distension, severe abdominal pain or swelling.

Notify your doctor if any of these symptoms becomes particularly troublesome.

Imodium is only meant for the use of those to whom it has been prescribed. Do not give your dose to other persons whatever their symptoms might be. Consult your doctor or any other health care provider in case the information given in the guidelines does not seem sufficient to you.
